TIP:   Either use the Slideshow function  to view the images in the Lightbox mode (large  format,).  Or alternately , click  on an image.    You can then use the forward/backward arrows  (> and  <) to navigate through the Gallery.  Use the "X" in the upper right or the Esc key to stop the  Slideshow or Lightbox mode and return to  this page.

All Yosemite-bound traffic through the Wawona area crossed the covered bridge, which was built in 1857 by Galen Clark. Clark opened the first waystation for visitors in Wawona. He sold his land along the river to the Washburns, and they covered the bridge in the style of their native Vermont.
